Kia ora, friend! I’m James Price...
Creativity Coach, Photographer, and former Early Childhood Educator, from Aotearoa New Zealand. I help artists, makers, and soulful misfits reconnect with what truly matters in their creative life: purpose, play, and that spark that started it all.
I come from a small town with a big heart, shaped by windblown coastlines, open skies, and a culture that values connection over convention. Here in New Zealand and Australia, we create differently, with grit, humility, and heart. We don’t follow trends. We follow the muse, even when she’s muddy, messy, or late to the party.
Before creativity became my full-time focus, I spent 17 years in high-pressure security roles, work that taught me how to read people, solve problems under pressure, and show up with presence. But I knew something was missing. So I took a hard left turn, retrained in early childhood education in Adelaide, and began working in kindergartens, including with tamariki on the autism spectrum.
That chapter changed everything. Working with young minds reminded me that creativity begins in play, in curiosity, and in feeling safe enough to experiment. It taught me that connection comes before content, and that’s true whether you’re a four-year-old with finger paint or a forty year old creative who’s lost their way. My time in early childhood education taught me to listen deeply, to simplify without dumbing down, and to honour the process as much as the outcome. It’s not just part of my backstory, it’s the foundation of how I coach and create today.
When I returned to Aotearoa, I continued supporting families through wraparound services for children with complex needs. It deepened my belief that creativity isn’t just something we do, it’s something we need. It’s how we heal, speak truth, and find joy again.
Since 2021, I’ve devoted myself to exploring creativity as a way of living. I recently completed a Diploma in Art & Creativity (Advanced), and I now blend art-making, journaling, mindfulness, and photography into a practice grounded in soulful grit and calm, practical support.
If you’re a creative looking to find your voice, reclaim your rhythm, or reconnect with that creative magic you left somewhere along the way, I’m here to help. Let’s make something meaningful, together.
